“If you always do what you have always done, You will always get what you always got!”
I’m sure you have heard this one before…
Think about it, if you continually do the same thing day in and day out only you are looking for different results, chances are, that’s not going to happen. And, you can pretty much apply that to everything in your life.
Looking for love (in all the wrong places), but you always go for the same type and it gets you nowhere and you wonder why? Maybe it’s time to go for a new type? Always visit the same dating sites? How about trying a new one? There are a million of them these days. Personally, I have changed my type many times over and am on several new sites. I still haven’t found love yet, but I’ve met some great and interesting people along the way!
Looking for a new job and having no luck? Why not try a whole new approach? Have an idea for a business, only you keep saying to yourself you don’t know how to start. Hint: just start!
The point is, when we have an issue or problem in our lives, we seem to revert to the same way of thinking and the same way of doing, and then expect different results. In order to get a better result, you need to think better, out-of-the-box kind of thinking! This is how you grow. This is how you come out of your comfort zone. I know, scary stuff, and no one wants to do it!
But in order to live the life you are destined to live, coming out of your comfort zone is part of that process. For me personally, it has meant doing many “uncomfortable” things. Public Speaking, I’ve given quite a few speeches over the past 4-5 years, and each one of them has made me extremely uncomfortable, yet I get a tremendous rush when I am doing them. Blogging, yup, uncomfortable. You never know if someone is going to say your writing sucks or say some other negative comment, only I do it anyway, it’s part of my business. And more to the point, I love doing it!
When I first started my business, I did a lot of networking and most of the time, I went by myself to these events. Ask me if I was out of my comfort zone? LOL! I used to sit in my car in the parking lot convincing myself to go in… and I did go in. Prior to my new way of thinking and doing things, I would have made sure I new someone was going to be there I knew. Not these days. If there is an event I want to attend, I don’t even think about it. I just go. Luckily for me, I usually find someone I know, but not every time. But I know if I want to grow my business, and I want to grow as a person, networking is part of that and so I do it. I also look at it as somewhat of an adventure, never knowing who I will meet? And I’ve met some pretty fantastic people over the years, people I never would have met had I not dared venture out!
So the next time you are trying to do something, instead of going left, go right. Instead of doing what you usually do, do somewhere different. Think different. For the simple act of thinking different will get you different results, hopefully better ones!
Till next time,
