Say please and thank you! (12/19/19)

“There are some things money cannot buy: like manners, morals, intelligence and class!” / NineFrogs Wisdom / “Say please and thank you!”

Want to make the people around you love you even more?

Start saying please and thank you often, like, really oftenπŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

Like, make it part of your everyday lifeπŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

From the time my boys were very young, I always impressed upon them how good manners mattered greatly in lifeπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆ

Sure, being smart was great!

Getting a good education, ditto.

But having good manners will get you a whole lot further than both, if you don’t have good manners!

Similarly, if you want those around you to love your company, start saying please and thank you ALL THE TIME!

I do!

Always have!

As do both my boys.😁😁😁

We might curse like sailors, but we are polite as hellπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I mean really, how hard is it to say thank you?

Or please?

And hold a door open for someone?

Other bad habits on my list include: gum chewing and smoking, a big yuck to both of themβœ…βœ…βœ…

But let’s get back to the please and thank you partπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆ

Many interviewers check for good manners.βœ”βœ”βœ”

They want to see how well you will get along with your prospective fellow workers.

You may be smart as a whip, but have absolutely no manners.😳😳😳

I mean really, who wants to work with some rude jerk?

No oneπŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ

I heard a story years ago that a man was interviewing for a high-level position in his company and was meeting a prospective candidate at the diner to interview him.

As they sat at the table and the waitress came over to take their order, the man who was doing the interviewing couldn’t help but notice how rude the man was being to the waitress☹☹☹

This continued throughout their meal, and the man said nothing.

When breakfast was over they walked outside and the man who was being interviewed asked the man what he thought his chances were of getting the position?

The man paused for a few seconds and said, ‘I’m sorry, after the way I saw you treat that waitress I can’t having you working for me and working with my people.”

I’d bet that man never got it😩😩😩

“Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use.” / Emily Post

I know most people don’t think of it that way, but it really shows respect.πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Like, would you show up to a friends wedding reception in a t-shirt in jeans?

Likely your answer is no. You would be dressed in something nice, dressed to celebrate the occasion❀❀❀

Well, it’s the same thing when people don’t dress appropriately for the occasion. Dress sloppy, and people will treat you as such. Don’t be THAT personπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆ

Other things you can do to improve your manners are:

Making eye contact with whoever you are speaking withπŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

Shaking hands with a sturdy handshakeπŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹

Being on-timeβœ”βœ”βœ”

Not checking your cell phone when you are speaking with someone, so, so rude!!!😠😠😠

And of course, you know I have to say it, smiling πŸ˜‰

That’s just a sprinkling of ideasπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

So why are good manners important in your social/business life?

Because they are a clear reflection of you, and the impression you leave on othersπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆ

Now, think about that?

Do you know what kind of impression are you leaving on others?

Are people happy to see you😍😍😍

Or, are they notπŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘

And, by the way, you can always tellπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

So there you have it!

That’s a wrap!

Talk soon,

Patricia <3 always
